Dear Commuting Friend,

Every opinion poll conducted in the Puget Sound Region over the past decade concludes traffic congestion as the foremost concern on most people's minds. It is a growing crisis that now affects every area of our personal lives and businesses. Lost personal and family time aside, the Washington Policy Council estimates that traffic congestion is costing our region's economy $9 billion dollars each year in jobs and wealth.

As it stands now with every governmental transportation plan in place, state government will spend $100 billion dollars on transportation over the next 30 years - yet traffic congestion will only double! This is unacceptable. Perhaps you've wondered yourself if traffic congestion can ever be resolved. We believe it can!

The Washington Traffic Institute is a partnership of various business and private citizens that have come together with the goal of bringing people together with facts and information about our state's transportation infrastructure. Unlike traditional research or think-tank type organizations, WTI's mission is to act as a clearinghouse for gathering all known transportation information available and then communicate that knowledge to the general public.

The WTI is a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to providing you with the truth about your transportation infrastructure. This website is truthabouttraffic.org because we are committed to providing you with the truth; factual information and objective insights to the traffic congestion debacle we are facing.

In the coming weeks and months truthabouttraffic.org will be updated with new information and links provided to address the most topical issues of the day. Presently, for 2007, that topic is Sound Transit's forthcoming ballot proposal to expand light rail, combined with a moderate roads package. We think you will find all you need to know to make an informed choice.

Thank you for visiting!
